Celebrating Diversity: Foundations for Inclusive Practice is the first course in a broader series designed to strengthen equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) capability across the Medical Radiation Science (MRS) workforce. This foundational course is introductory level, intended for all staff, regardless of role or prior experience.

It provides a starting point for understanding EDI within the Australian healthcare context and specifically in MRS. It is recommended that this course is completed before accessing additional modules in the Celebrating Diversity series. After completing Foundations for Inclusive Practice, learners can choose any subsequent course in any order, as each is designed to stand alone while complementing the series as a whole.

Welcome to the Proton Beam Therapy Course. This course has been designed to help you understand the fundamental aspects of this treatment modality. Proton beam therapy is not a new concept, in fact, the world's first hospital-based facility was opened in 1990. Whilst we eagerly await this technology becoming available in Australia, let's get prepared for what will be a huge advancement for our profession, and equip our patients and MDT colleagues to understand this treatment option better.

This course is an exploration of the practical basics of MRI safety, as experienced by the patient, with an Australian context. In five parts: ‘Patient preparation’; ‘On the day’; ‘On the bed’; ‘During the scan’ and ‘Emergencies’, we explore and develop our understanding of the relevant safety risks and processes, as well as how the adult patient experiences them (and can impact their success).

MRI Safety: The Patient Experience is designed to be a practical introduction to daily MRI safety processes in an Australian, patient-centred care context, rather than an in-depth exploration of the physical principles underpinning MRI safety. The intended audience ranges from student radiographers, general radiographers, MRI radiographers, and medical imaging professionals such as Radiation Therapists and Nuclear Medicine Technologists who are training or working in MRI. Those relatively new to the MRI environment are most likely to benefit from this course, as well as mid-career MRI staff who wish to explore aspects of MRI safety from a patient-centred perspective.

This course does not aim to duplicate excellent physics-based safety courses that exist, but to be a point of difference aligning with person-centred care, and uniquely Australian. References to high quality sources for those wishing to deepen their understanding of MRI physics are suggested within the course material. The current scope of this course is the adult patient’s experience of MRI safety protocols and processes, though future courses may explore other patient populations such as children.
